I have a Dell computer tower and a clunky old "Samtron" monitor. I want to buy a nice HP monitor (used online) but I’m not sure if it’ll be compatible with my computer. Are the hook-ups the same across the board, for all brands?

Hi folks! I have recently thought of getting dual monitors w/ a new desktop computer, but that desktop only has one VGA port on the backside of it. My question is, "how do I use both Monitors w/ only 1 VGA port?

I bought a VGA cable to connect my Dell Inspiron laptop and the 22 inch Acer flatscreen monitor and while my Windows Vista recognizes the monitor, the monitor still says no signal. How can I configure it to have an extended screen so that I can use both at the same time?
